Wedding Flowers at the Audain Art Museum in Whistler

Colourful Florals Fit For a Modern Venue

The Audain art Museum is a stunning, modern, architectural wedding venue – so basically a dream come true to me as a wedding florist. Then when Grace (the lovely bride) shared her dream flower colour palette with me, I knew this would be a design day to remember. The floral colours we featured were wine red, bright red, orange, purple, hints of lavender, and a deep golden yellow to ground the palette. When curating this bright colour palette the challenge was creating bold colours that still came across as mature and fitting for such a modern venue. It was the deep golden yellow transitioning out of the orange that truly unlocked this colour palette challenge for me.

Unique Ceremony Seating

For the ceremony at Grace & Curtis’s wedding at the Audain in August, the main floral design was two floral towers featuring lush wild smilax vine and bright floral sections. We opted to add more smilax vine than what was in the original design plan because the installation would have gotten lost in the background if it was too minimal. We don’t use floral foam in designs so instead we used moss clumps wrapped in chicken wire to hold the florals! The flowers that needed hydration were placed in water picks. What I loved most about the ceremony set-up was the  bleacher style seating where guests sat on long benches cascading down towards the floral pillars. This meant that rental chairs didn’t need to brought out for the ceremony and there was little to no cleanup necessary!

A Modern Reception Space

Now I’ve said it a thousand times and I’ll say it a thousand more – the best way to use your wedding flower budget is by having an installation that can be moved from ceremony to reception. And that is exactly what we did! The layout of the reception space had some last minute changes so once it was set up we decided to place the installation at the entrance to the reception by the seating chart. It created an elevated decor experience for guests as soon as they walked in! Margot from Petite Pearl Events was an absolute dream to work with while we decided where to place these flower towers at the reception (and throughout the rest of the day too!). I also can’t forget to mention the multiple cakes by Purebread Canada, they have been my favourite bakery for a while now and seeing these cakes has solidified their spot on my favourites list. The only challenge when it comes to setting up the reception at the Audain is that access to the reception space isn’t possible until after the museum closes to the public for the day. That’s why we prioritized pre-designing all of the florals that would be placed in the reception space for maximum efficiency.
